iDontCrash - Fraudulent App

Author: dexxter  //  Category: Cydia, Software, bugs, downloads, news, tips

BigBoss has put out a warning on his website about a fraudulent
application called iDontCrash. It seems that a developer tried to get
BigBoss to host his application but due to curiosity BigBoss decided to
take a good look at the app before hosting it. Below is what he
found…this is just a snippet of the article. You can view the full
article HERE. .

A week ago, a developer tried to send me an app called
iDontCrash to host. Being curious, and a developer myself, I asked a
few questions about this app before hosting it. The answers proved to
me that it is total fraud on the community. It should be called
iDontWork or iAmFake. This app gave me hours of enjoyment while we were
picking it apart. In short, do not trust this app or its developer
Brandon Rose. It is upsetting when someone tries to harm our community,
therefore, I decided to post all about this app and its pseudo
developer.

What is iDontCrash? It is nothing. A fake app not even built for iPhone that does nothing but give you, the hopeful user, false hopes.

What does iDontCrash claim to be? It
claims to be an app that prevents crashing due to low memory. Sounds
great right? It sounded pretty dubious. So we looked into it. What did
we find?

1) iDontCrash is not even an iPhone application. It’s not compiled for ARM6 processor.

2) iDontCrash was generated using the wizard in xcode. Then the
binary was compiled for the iPhone simulator that runs on the MAC. Of
course this cannot run on an iPhone.

3) iDontCrash claims to run and close instantly then putting a
daemon onto the system that monitors memory usage. This does not
happen. Instead, the app crashes because it is an invalid binary for
the system. Here is a copy of the log:

(UIKitApplication:com.yourcompany.iDon_t_Crash[0×4c3f][63]):
posix_spawnp(”/var/stash/.FZm9EA/iDon’t Crash.app/iDon’t Crash”, …):

replacement_adapter iPhone Replacement Chargers Start Arriving; Charge for Unreturned Chargers?Users are beginning to receive replacement iPhone chargers offered under Apple’s product recall, which states:

“Apple has determined that under certain conditions the new
ultracompact Apple USB power adapter’s metal prongs can break off and
remain in a power outlet, creating a risk of electric shock. We have
received reports of detached blades involving a very small percentage
of the adapters sold, but no injuries have been reported.”

Included with the replacement adapters is a return envelope, in
which the old, defective adapters are to be placed and returned to
Apple. Users have said that paperwork included with the replacement
adapters states that a $29 fee will be charged if the old adapters are
not returned.

iPhone SMS Privacy Flaw Discovered

Author: dexxter  //  Category: announcements, bugs, tips

Setting the iPhone to emergency call mode allows someone to see incoming text messages
even if the passcode lock is turned on. A 12-year-old who uses his
iPhone mostly for texting with his girlfriend has discovered what looks
like a new vulnerability with the device.

The unnamed boy, son of blogger Karl Kraft, turns on the passcode
lock and disables SMS Preview in order to prevent his parents from
seeing any messages, Kraft wrote on his blog.

Those settings block the display of incoming text messages and show an
alert saying “New Text Message” if an SMS comes through while the phone
is locked. However, if the phone is set to emergency call mode the
incoming text messages are previewed.

“Thus all I need to do to intercept the messages from his girlfriend
is to place the phone in emergency mode and wait 30 seconds for the
next sickly sweet message,” Kraft writes.

Apple representatives did not return e-mails seeking comment. A
different security hole related to password-protected iPhones was
discovered in August, and last month a researcher disclosed that the
iPhone captures all the activities of a user in order to enable the
cool fading applications effect.

iTunes 8.0.1: Problems Syncing the iPhone, iPod touch

Author: dexxter  //  Category: Software, bugs, downloads, itunes, tips

I hope you guys heed my advice not to download any new updates till you have researched online that there are no bugs or if it will affect your jailbroken iphone/ipod. Please do not update the moment new updates are released…some are bugged while some are for stopping you from jailbreaking your iphone properly. Do take note. Tell this to all your friends if you see this.

Several users have reported problems syncing their iPhones after
updating to iTunes 8.0.1. The most common error message is as follows:
“an unknown error 13014.”

As one reader writes:

“I just downloaded and installed iTunes 8.0.1 on my iMac running
10.5.5, and synced my non-3G iPhone. I immediately received an error
message stating that “The phone ‘[my iPhone's name]‘ cannot be synced.
An unknown error occurred (13014). Thinking I’d probably be able to fix
it by resetting the phone, I did so.

“Now, 15 minutes into the reset, the phone is syncing nicely with no
major issues, except that I’m still getting prompted that it can’t be
synced about every 15 seconds or so. It’s even kind enough to queue up
the errors so that if I ignore them for a few minutes I can go back and
just click ‘OK’ half a dozen times and then go back to whatever I was
working on. No idea of the cause, outside of the iTunes upgrade.”

Users are reporting similar issues with the iPod touch.

Apple Dicussions poster Wade Dansby writes:

“I have the exact same issue with my iPod touch. As soon as I
downloaded and installed the new iTunes update, all the problems
started. Have tried restoring settings several times. To no avail.”

In some cases, simply restarting the host computer and restarting the iPhone can resolve this issue. In other cases, this procedure is unsuccessful.
